When the Body Speaks

Inside the Living Experience of a Somatic Therapy Session

When people are curious about somatic therapy, they often want to know what actually happens in a session.

You may arrive with something you want to explore: a relationship, a recurring pattern, a decision, a feeling you cannot quite name, or a sense that something in your life is asking to change.

We begin with conversation. As you speak, I listen to the story you are sharing—and to everything communicating beneath it.

I listen for the words your body emphasizes. I notice where your breath changes, where your pace quickens, and where your voice becomes quieter. I listen for the phrase that carries more energy than you expected or the moment when your body seems to know something before your mind has found the language for it.

I may invite you to pause and hear your own words from the inside.

Where do you feel those words within your body?

What happens to your breath as you speak them?

Is there an image, sensation, memory, emotion, or movement beginning to emerge?

This is often where the session opens into something unexpected.

Slowing Down Enough to Hear

Many of us have learned to move quickly through our experiences. We explain, analyze, organize, and search for solutions. Yet the body communicates through a different rhythm.

Somatic work creates enough spaciousness for that rhythm to become perceptible.

A sensation in the chest may hold an emotion that has never had language. Tightness in the throat may reveal words that have been waiting to be spoken. A familiar phrase may lead us toward the belief from which it originated. An image may arise and offer a new way of understanding an experience.

Sometimes the breath deepens as the body recognizes something the mind has been trying to understand for years.

The work is intentionally slow because the body often speaks more quietly than the thinking mind. Slowing down allows us to meet what is emerging with curiosity, presence, and care.

A Collaborative Relationship of Listening

Each session unfolds through the relationship we create together.

I bring more than twenty years of experience as a psychotherapist, my training in somatic approaches, my understanding of the nervous system, and the intuitive and spiritual gifts that shape how I listen.

You bring your body, your story, your questions, your lived experience, and the wisdom already present within you.

Together, we become present for what wants to emerge.

There is no predetermined path that every session must follow. One session may center on language and sensation. Another may include breath, imagery, sound, gentle movement, silence, or an intuitive reflection. The work responds to what your body is communicating and what feels available for you in that moment.

Your experience remains central. Your body helps determine the pace. The session becomes a collaborative act of discovery.

The Inner Landscape and Everyday Life

As we listen, you may begin to recognize that your inner landscape is continually expressing itself through your everyday experience.

The way you relate to yourself may appear in the relationships you choose. A belief held quietly within the body may influence what you expect from the world. A recurring pattern may reveal a deeper understanding you carry about safety, love, belonging, visibility, or what you believe is possible for you.

Even the language you use can offer a doorway.

When a phrase is slowed down and felt within the body, it may reveal the philosophy of being beneath it—the inner story quietly shaping how you meet your life.

We listen to these patterns as meaningful expressions. As their deeper origins become visible, another understanding becomes possible. You begin to experience greater choice in how you relate to yourself, your body, and the world around you.

Why a Session Can Feel Like an Inner Journey

People sometimes describe somatic work as entering an inner landscape.

As the pace slows and the body experiences a sense of safety, sensations, images, memories, emotions, and unexpected connections may begin to emerge. Something that once felt fixed may reveal another meaning. What was previously outside of awareness may become available to be felt, witnessed, and integrated.

The journey happens through a deeper relationship with the body.

Your breath may become a guide. An image may become a language. A sensation may begin to move or change. Your heart may reveal a truth that could not be reached through analysis alone.

The experience is guided by your own capacity and the wisdom of your body. My role is to listen with you, to help you remain connected to yourself, and to support what is ready to unfold.

Returning to the Wisdom Within You

At the heart of this work is a return.

A return to the body as a place you can safely inhabit.

A return to the breath as a living connection to the present moment.

A return to the heart as a source of intelligence, discernment, and inner guidance.

I create a space where your words, body, breath, inner imagery, and spiritual wisdom can enter the same conversation. As these parts of you begin communicating, you may discover that the guidance you have been seeking has already been taking shape within you.

This is why I call myself a Heart Doula.

I listen alongside you as something true, wise, and deeply your own is given the space to emerge.

If you are longing for this kind of listening, I welcome you.

One-to-one Heart Doula Sessions are available in person in Fort Lauderdale and online.
