How Do You Know If Somatic Therapy Is right for you?
Perhaps a better question is: What are you hoping healing will look like?
One of the quietest questions we carry when we reach out for support is rarely spoken aloud.
How will I know if this is the right kind of help?
It's an honest question.
If we're going to invest our time, energy, and resources into working with someone, we naturally want to know whether it will help.
Will the anxiety lessen?
Will the pain disappear?
Will I finally feel different?
Will this be worth it?
I've asked those same questions myself. I imagine most of us have.
We want reassurance that our investment will produce a measurable outcome. We want confidence that the support we're choosing is the right support.
And while there is wisdom in those questions, I've also come to wonder if healing asks us to measure something entirely different.
We often expect healing to feel like resolution.
I've come to experience it as relationship.
When someone reaches out to work with me, they're often wondering if what I offer is what they're looking for. They want to know if this way of working—with the body, the nervous system, the heart, and the deeper wisdom that lives beneath our stories—is the right path for them.
I understand that curiosity.
There is no guarantee that any practitioner, modality, or healing experience is the right fit for every person.
In fact, I believe one of the most important parts of beginning any healing journey is asking yourself a different question.
Does the way this person understands healing feel aligned with what I am longing for?
Because every practitioner listens differently.
This is how I listen.
I don't begin by asking what's wrong.
Nor do I begin with a predetermined destination.
Instead...
we begin listening.
Listening the breath.
Listening the body.
Listening the heart.
Listening the places where language flows easily...
and the places where words suddenly disappear.
I notice the rhythm of your breath.
The places your nervous system signals ease or discomfort.
The sensations your body brings forward.
The stories hidden within your patterns.
The pauses that quietly invite us to stay a little longer.
Because the body has been faithfully carrying a story long before the mind learned how to explain it.
And stories like these rarely reveal themselves through urgency.
They reveal themselves through relationship.
The body is an extraordinary intelligence.
Every pattern it carries has a reason.
Every adaptation once served life.
Every way you've learned to protect yourself was, at one time, an act of profound wisdom.
The invitation isn't to fight those adaptations.
It's to become curious enough to understand them.
To discover whether what once protected you is still what your life is asking for now.
Because there comes a moment when our evolution quietly whispers,
"You no longer need to survive this way."
What does a successful session look like?
Someone asked me this recently after their first session.
I loved the question.
Because beneath it was another.
How will I know healing is happening?
We often imagine healing will announce itself dramatically.
That the symptom will disappear.
That clarity will suddenly arrive.
That we'll leave feeling completely different than when we walked in.
Sometimes that happens.
Often...
something quieter begins.
A relationship begins.
Not with me.
With yourself.
Healing isn't always the disappearance of pain.
Sometimes healing is the moment something inside you feels deeply listened to for the very first time.
Sometimes it is the moment your body realizes it no longer has to carry its story alone.
Sometimes it is simply discovering that beneath every pattern is an intelligence that has been waiting to be understood rather than judged.
This is why I work slowly.
Not because slow is inherently better.
But because relationships cannot be rushed.
The relationship with your body deserves the same patience you would offer someone you deeply love.
Trust doesn't emerge from pressure.
It grows through safety.
Presence.
Consistency.
Listening.
The body unfolds in the presence of someone who is willing to stay.
Perhaps that someone is ultimately you.
So how do you know if this work is right for you?
Not because I can promise an outcome.
I can't.
No ethical practitioner can.
Instead, I would invite you to notice something different.
Do you feel more curious than critical?
Do you notice yourself listening instead of managing?
Does your relationship with your body begin to soften?
Do you find yourself becoming less interested in fixing yourself and more interested in understanding yourself?
Little by little...
your way of being with yourself begins to change.
And from that relationship...
everything else begins reorganizing.
Everything begins here.
There is no perfect session.
There is no universal timeline.
There is only the next honest moment of listening.
If the way I understand healing resonates with you—if slowing down, listening to the body's intelligence, and allowing your nervous system, heart, and spirit to guide the process feels aligned with what you are seeking—then perhaps this work is the right doorway for you.
Not because I have something to fix.
But because I know how to listen.
And sometimes, being deeply listened to is where healing first begins.
